Indian Business Tycoon Sunjay Kapur, Karisma Kapoor’s Ex-Husband, Dies During Polo Game in UK

Sunjay Kapur, the former spouse of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and a noted business magnate, died on June 12 at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack in the United Kingdom. He was participating in a polo match at the time of the cardiac arrest.

Medical teams arrived promptly, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, all efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. The tragic incident has stunned friends, family, and associates both in India and abroad.

Hours before the fatal incident, Kapur posted a solemn tribute on social media, extending sympathy to the families affected by a recent plane crash in India. The timing of his final post has drawn emotional responses from his followers, many calling it “hauntingly prophetic.”

Kapur, who was at the helm of Sona Group—an influential player in India’s automotive industry—had a reputation for blending corporate leadership with a passion for sports, particularly equestrian events. Polo was more than a pastime for him; it was part of his lifestyle.

His marriage to Karisma Kapoor in 2004 brought him into the spotlight beyond business circles. They had two children together and separated in 2016 after a lengthy court case. Karisma, who was granted full custody of their children, has since focused on her film career and family life in Mumbai.

In 2017, Sunjay Kapur tied the knot with Priya Sachdev, a former model and businesswoman. The couple maintained a quieter presence on social media and were known for their involvement in philanthropic work.

As condolences pour in from the business and film fraternity, the Kapur family has yet to release official details about memorial services or funeral proceedings.
