Indian actress Parineeti Chopra has spoken against the criticism faced by women after childbirth, questioning why changes to a mother’s body are often treated negatively.
In a recent conversation with Zoom, the actress discussed the pressure placed on new mothers to quickly return to their pre-pregnancy appearance. Chopra said she believes the focus should instead be on celebrating motherhood and supporting women during the postpartum period.
The actress, who became a mother to a son in October 2025, questioned why people expect women to regain their previous appearance within a fixed period after giving birth.
Chopra specifically addressed comments about stretch marks and other physical changes associated with pregnancy. She said she views these changes differently, considering them evidence of what a woman’s body has experienced.
The actress described her own stretch marks as beautiful because they remind her that she carried and gave birth to her child.
She also challenged the idea that a postpartum woman should be told to return to her previous appearance after a certain number of months.
For Chopra, physical changes following pregnancy should not automatically be viewed as flaws. Instead, she argued that people should ask about the mother and child rather than focus on whether the woman’s body has returned to its earlier appearance.
Her remarks come amid renewed discussion about body-shaming of actresses who have recently become mothers.
Katrina Kaif, who welcomed her first child last year, recently faced social media commentary about her appearance after making a public appearance with her husband Vicky Kaushal at an Ambani family Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.
The incident prompted discussions about the scrutiny faced by women in the public eye following pregnancy. Chopra has also spoken about the criticism directed at Kaif, saying that commenting negatively on a postpartum body is inappropriate.
Chopra also said that she does not spend much time following social media criticism and therefore does not closely monitor the trolling surrounding herself or other people.
She suggested that discussing another person’s body is unnecessary and that people should focus their attention elsewhere instead of judging someone’s appearance after childbirth.
The conversation comes at an important point in Chopra’s professional career as she prepares for the release of her new psychological thriller series Shaque: Trust No One.
The Netflix series marks her first major web-series project and features Chopra alongside Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jennifer Winget, Soni Razdan, Anup Soni, Sumeet Vyas and Harleen Sethi.
Created by Rensil D’Silva and Siddharth P. Malhotra, Shaque: Trust No One follows a mother whose baby goes missing. The story explores her lengthy search for answers as she attempts to uncover what happened to her child.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 24, 2026.
Chopra’s latest comments have consequently connected her personal experience of motherhood with a broader conversation about how women are treated after childbirth.
Her message is centered on allowing new mothers time to recover and adjusting the way society talks about postpartum bodies.
Rather than treating stretch marks, weight changes or other physical differences as something that needs to be immediately corrected, Chopra has argued that they can also be understood as natural reminders of pregnancy and motherhood.
Her comments have added another celebrity voice to the ongoing discussion about body image, social-media scrutiny and the expectations placed on women in the entertainment industry.
