Varun Dhawan Shares Daughter Lara’s Battle with DDH and Inspiring Recovery

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has opened up about a challenging chapter in his family life, revealing that his daughter Lara Dhawan was diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) as a toddler. Speaking on the podcast Be A Man, Yaar!, Varun detailed the diagnosis, treatment, and the difficult months Lara spent in a cast.

Varun and his wife Natasha Dalal, who welcomed Lara in June 2024, shared that the condition was detected when Lara was around one and a half years old. DDH occurs when the hip joint does not form properly, causing the hip to slip out of its socket. This can result in one leg appearing shorter than the other, leading to an uneven gait, difficulty walking, and potential complications like early-onset arthritis or spinal issues if left untreated.

Fortunately, Lara’s condition was corrected without surgery. Doctors performed a medical procedure to reposition her hip joint, but she had to remain in a spica cast for 2.5 months—a challenging period for both Lara and her parents. “She didn’t need surgery. With one procedure, they could put the hip back. But she had to be in a cast for 2.5 months, which is extremely difficult,” Varun explained.

Varun expressed gratitude for his daughter’s recovery and urged parents to stay vigilant about early developmental signs in children. He also reflected on how parenthood has transformed him, emphasizing the joys of being a “girl dad” and the lengths he would go to ensure Lara’s well-being.

This heartfelt revelation by Varun Dhawan not only highlights awareness around DDH but also inspires parents and families dealing with similar challenges, showcasing resilience, love, and attentive parenting.
