Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor has opened up about the way she and her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, discuss their professional decisions, revealing that they often avoid being too direct when commenting on each other’s work.
The actress, 45, discussed their approach to career choices during an interview with Brut India, where she appeared alongside her Daayra co-star Prithviraj Sukumaran and the film’s director Meghna Gulzar.
Kareena was asked who in her family is most likely to give her honest and unfiltered feedback. She mentioned both her sister Karisma Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, but explained that there is still a degree of caution when they discuss professional matters.
According to Kareena, actors can become particularly sensitive when receiving opinions about their performances, scripts or other creative decisions. Because both she and Saif work in the same industry, they understand that professional criticism can sometimes be difficult to receive.
The actress also highlighted that she and Saif do not necessarily approach acting and scripts in the same way.
“I think Saif and I are different kinds of actors,” Kareena said while explaining their contrasting perspectives on career choices.
She indicated that she may decide against taking on a project if a script does not connect with her, whereas Saif can assess a project from a different point of view. Their different approaches mean that neither automatically follows the other’s opinion when deciding which work to accept.
Kareena suggested that this understanding helps them maintain a healthy professional boundary at home. Rather than trying to influence every decision, the couple generally allows each other the freedom to make individual career choices.
However, Saif does occasionally share his thoughts on Kareena’s projects.
Kareena recalled that he had an opinion about Daayra, although his observation was not exactly focused on the film’s storyline. Instead, Saif commented on the colour used in the movie’s poster.
Kareena humorously recalled telling him to stop discussing the matter with her and contact Meghna Gulzar directly if he wanted to offer his view.
Daayra is particularly notable for bringing Kareena Kapoor and Meghna Gulzar together for the first time. The project also features Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Kareena in a major role.
The action drama is inspired by true events and has been written by Meghna Gulzar, Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal.
In the film, Kareena and Prithviraj portray police officers, adding another demanding dimension to their performances. The project is backed by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios.
